Who doesn’t want to maintain a youthful appearance? Fortunately, there are many medical spa treatments and products available to help you do just that! Read on to learn about medical spa treatments that work for a variety of skin types and budgets.

Botox Injections

Botox is FDA-approved to treat frown lines (between the eyebrows), forehead lines, and crow’s feet (at the outside corners of the eyes). It is the perfect treatment to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for these areas of the face.

Off-label uses of Botox include:

  • Lifting the corner of the eyebrows.
  • Smoothing the chin (aka cobblestone chin).
  • Lifting the corners of the mouth.
  • Thinning out and contouring the jawline.

The results of Botox take 5 to 14 days to take effect. On average, results last between three and four months. Once results wear off, additional Botox injections are required to maintain results.

Dermal Fillers for the Face

A dermal filler treatment is the perfect complementary treatment to Botox to help maintain a youthful appearance. Dermal fillers for the face, like Juvederm and Restylane, fill in lines and wrinkles and add volume to areas of the face, such as the cheeks and chin. Lip filler is also a popular treatment that uses dermal fillers.

There are several dermal filler options available. Some of the most popular dermal fillers are made of HA (hyaluronic acid). Restylane and Juvederm are both HA dermal fillers. Juvederm Voluma is the first and only FDA-approved filler to fill and contour the cheeks and chin. There are several other types of fillers in the Juvederm family, such as Voluma for the lips, and Vollure, Ultra, and Ultra XC for moderate to severe wrinkles and folds.

Dermal filler treatments generally last between six months to two years, depending on the type of filler use and the area being treated. Additional filler injections are required to maintain results.

Healthy Lifestyle Choices

Looking good starts from the inside out. A healthy lifestyle goes a long way to your skin looking and feeling its best. A healthy meal plan with plenty of fruits and vegetables and taking nutritional supplements to ensure you’re getting the proper levels of vitamins and minerals are great starts. Exercise is also essential to maintain healthy blood flow and detoxing the body.

Proper Skincare Products

Taking care of your skin by using the proper skincare is necessary to protect and respond to premature aging of the skin. Using appropriate cleansers, moisturizers, exfoliators, hydrators, and treatments for your skin type and the current season of the year will help you maintain a youthful appearance.

Ingredients to look for include:

  • BHA – BHAs (beta-hydroxy acids) are great exfoliators and improve the skin’s texture, tone, age spots, and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. BHA products are also great for acne-prone skin and penetrate a bit deeper into the skin than AHAs do.
  • AHA – AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) increase skin moisture and treat fines lines and wrinkles, age spots, and more.
  • HA – Our bodies naturally produce HA (hyaluronic acid), which keeps our skin supple and plump. As we age, the amount of HA in our skin declines, which leads to the appearance of sagging skin and wrinkles. Products with HA help keep the skin hydrated which helps to reduce the appearance of texture and fine lines and wrinkles. SkinMedica’s HA5 is an excellent hydrator that offers immediate results.

Ultherapy

Ultherapy is a non-surgical tightening procedure for the face and chest areas that requires no surgery or downtime. Ultherapy works by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production using thermal energy. It is the perfect treatment to reduce the appearance of sagging in the mid-face, lower face, and jowls. Ultherapy also helps to smooth the lines and wrinkles of the chest area.

Improvement after an Ultherapy treatment typically continues for up to three months following treatment. Results are generally long-lasting.

Laser Face Treatments

Laser treatments use light therapy to improve the appearance of the skin’s surface. Broadband light (BBL) therapy is one type of laser treatment used to rejuvenate the skin. BBL is the perfect treatment for:

  • Age spots and brown spots
  • Wrinkles
  • Broken capillaries
  • Sun damage
  • Visible blood vessels
  • Laxity
  • Rough texture

Microneedling

Microneedling uses tiny needles that penetrate the skin. It helps to stimulate the skin’s own collagen production to improve the skin’s overall tone and texture. Microneedling radiofrequency adds the power of radiofrequency to treat the skin further.

As the most recent advancement in microneedling, microneedling radiofrequency helps lift and tighten the skin and improve the appearance of age spots. A series of treatments is often recommended to achieve desired results.

Drink Plenty of Water

The skin is the largest organ of the body and is primarily made up of water. When the skin is dehydrated, it can appear dry and wrinkly. Drinking plenty of water supports the skin in staying plump and hydrated, which in turn means a more youthful appearance.

The standard is to drink at least 8 cups, or 64 ounces, of water a day. Another rule of thumb is to drink at least half of your weight in water each day.

Chemical Peels and Facials

There are different levels of chemical peels, from light to medium to deep. Chemical peels can be used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, skin tone, skin texture, and acne. Light chemical peels require little to no downtime, where medium and deep chemical peels generally require some downtime following treatment. The deeper the level, the more aggressive the results.

Facials are also excellent treatments for the face. The Diamond Glow facial is an innovative treatment that gives the skin a youthful glow. There is zero to no downtime following most facial treatments.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen should be applied all year round to protect the skin and prevent premature aging due to sun damage. Sunscreens also protect against skin cancer. Use sunscreens with both UVA and UVB coverage for maximum protection. Elta MD and SkinMedica both have high-quality sunscreen options.
