Enlarged pores can be bothersome for many when they look in the mirror. There are different causes of enlarged pores, and fortunately, there are treatment options, as well.
What Causes Large Pores?
There are three main causes of enlarged pores, including age, sex, and oily skin.
As we get older, our skin can lose its elasticity, making our pores look bigger. Sun damage can also increase the likelihood of enlarged pores—our skin hardens and collects around pores due to the sun damage, making them look larger.
2. Oil Production
We secrete sebum to keep our skin waterproof and prevent it from drying out. You are more likely to have large pores if you have naturally oily skin. This is due to dirt and oil collecting in your pores that causes them to swell.
3. Sex and Genetics
Males are more likely to have larger pores than females. Individuals whose mother or father had large pores are also more likely to have pores that are enlarged. Females might experience larger pores due to hormonal changes during menstruation, as well.
