What is Botox®?

Botox® is in the class of neuromodulators for cosmetic injectable products. This means that the active ingredient (botulinum toxin) temporarily relaxes facial muscles that squeeze the skin to form wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. DermaTouch RN also uses Botox® injections to treat TMJ. The treatment works in much the same way by relaxing muscles that cause pain in the temporomandibular joint.

FAQ's

How much should I expect to pay for Botox?

The overall cost of a Botox treatment will depend on the number of units of Botox needed to achieve your desired results. At DermaTouch RN, the cost of Botox ranges from $9.50 to $12.00 per unit, depending on the number of units you receive in a single treatment. The average new patient will receive 30 to 40 units as they are introduced to Botox. However, the FDA recommended dosage is 64 units for approved areas (forehead, glabella and crow’s feet).

  • Treatment of 50 Units or More: $9.50 Per Unit
  • Treatment of 30 to 49 Units: $10.00 Per Unit
  • Treatment of 29 Units or Less: $12.00 Per Unit
  • Aesthetic Club Members:  $9.00 Per Unit for Treatment of 20 Units or More

The cost per unit not only includes the price of the product, but also the time required for one of our skilled injectors to administer your treatment. During your consultation, your injector will develop a personalized treatment plan for Botox and provide the cost prior to treatment.

How long does Botox last?

The results of Botox vary between patients and treatment areas. Most often, patients can enjoy the benefits of Botox for up to four months. Your injector will recommend your next appointment based on your results and aesthetic goals.

What areas are good for Botox?

The most common areas treated with Botox include frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines that develop from repeated muscle contractions that occur when we frown, squint, smile and raise our eyebrows. However, treatment with Botox is customized to your aesthetic goals and needs and may include:

  • Forehead Lines
  • Frown Lines
  • Glabellar Lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows)
  • Crow’s Feet (outer corner of the eye)
  • Eyebrow Lift
  • Under Eye Lines
  • Bunny Lines (horizontal lines on the nose)
  • Gummy Smile / Lip Flip (relax the top lip)
  • Lip Lines (on the upper and lower lip)
  • Marionette Lines (the corner of the mouth to improve jowls)
  • Bruxism (teeth grinding and a slimmer, more oval shaped face)
  • Pitted Skin / Cobblestone Chin (dimpled chin)
  • Platysmal Bands (reduce vertical banding in the neck)
  • Neck Rings
  • Hyperhidrosis (reduce sweaty armpits and palms)
  • Migraines (minimize frequency and severity of migraine headaches)

During your consultation, your injector will determine the appropriate treatment for any areas you wish to address and make recommendations.

What is the cheaper version of Botox?

Botox Cosmetic is the top selling neurotoxin product and the brand most trusted by medical providers for its effectiveness and safety.

There is not a generic form of Botox Cosmetic and you should always be suspicious of providers offering bargain or cheap Botox. The unit price for Botox includes the price of the product and the skill and expertise of the injector that is administering your treatment. Always choose a medical professional that is licensed, trained, and experienced in treating patients with Botox Cosmetic.

The best way to save money on your Botox treatments is to join Aesthetic Club, our membership program, and pay only $9.00 per unit for a treatment of 20 units or more. Plus, enroll in Allē, the loyalty program by the makers of Botox Cosmetic. With Allē, formerly Brilliant Distinctions®, members earn points to save on future treatments. It’s easy and free to join!

Can you stop Botox once you start?

Botox is not a permanent treatment. Botox temporarily reduces muscle activity in areas treated to prevent and smooth lines and wrinkles. If you discontinue treatment, the muscle activity and lines gradually return.

What can you use instead of Botox?

Botox and Dysport are both Botulinum Type A Neurotoxins used to prevent and minimize the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. At DermaTouch RN, we inject thousands of vials of Dysport and Botox each year and have determined these products to be the premier choices available in the market today.

The overall treatment cost and effectiveness of Botox and Dysport are comparable. However, there are two differences to be aware of.

  • The price per unit of Dysport is less; however, more units (typically 2.5 to 3 times) must be administered to achieve similar results to that of Botox due to its lower molecular weight.
  • Dysport tends to spread to a wider area, or diffuses more, than Botox. So, it is important to choose a skilled injector that is familiar with how Dysport works compared to Botox.

Whether you prefer Dysport or Botox, it is important to have a skilled injector that is knowledgeable in facial anatomy and understands how each product functions in the body. Our clinic has over 14 years of experience with neurotoxin injections. Our master injector and national trainer provides on-going coaching and training to our team of injectors so you can be confident in the results we provide.
