What is Botox®?
Botox® is in the class of neuromodulators for cosmetic injectables. This means that the active ingredient (botulinum toxin type A) temporarily relaxes facial muscles that squeeze the skin to form dynamic wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. These dynamic wrinkles are caused by repeated facial expressions that cause the muscles to contract and wrinkles the skin. DermaTouch RN also uses Botox® injections to treat TMJ. The treatment works in much the same way by relaxing muscles that cause pain in the temporomandibular joint. Additionally, Botox and dermal fillers can be combined to simultaneously address fine lines and wrinkles and deeper facial folds.
