What is DYSPORT?
DYSPORT is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used:
- To improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults younger than 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).Frown lines (wrinkles) happen because the muscles that control facial expression are used often (muscle tightening over and over). After DYSPORT is injected into the muscles that control facial expression, the medicine stops the tightening of these muscles for up to 4 months.
- To treat the abnormal head position and neck pain that happens with cervical dystonia (CD) in adults.CD is caused by muscle spasms in the neck. These spasms cause abnormal position of the head and often neck pain. After DYSPORT is injected into muscles, those muscles are weakened for up to 12 to 16 weeks or longer. This may help lessen your symptoms.
It is not known whether DYSPORT is safe or effective in children under 18 years of age.
It is not known whether DYSPORT is safe or effective for the treatment of other types of muscle spasms. It is not known whether DYSPORT is safe or effective for the treatment of other wrinkles.
How does Dysport work?
Dysport® is a toxin that is naturally produced by the bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. Introducing the botulinum toxin in small, injected amounts temporarily blocks contractions in the treated muscle area causing the muscle to relax. When the muscles can no longer contract, this reduces the appearance of existing wrinkles and lines and discourages the formation of new ones.
Dysport and Botox work the same way to improve the appearance of facial lines. Both treatments will fade, and the lines will reappear. Dysport treatments for wrinkles typically last from 3 to 6 months.
What to Expect
DYSPORT is an injection that your DermaTouch doctor will give you. It is injected into the muscles that are affecting the area to be treated. We may give you another dose of DYSPORT after 12 weeks or longer, if it is needed. If you are currently being treated for CD, we may change your dose of DYSPORT, until the best dose is found for you. The dose of DYSPORT is not the same as the dose of Botox.
What is the difference between Dysport vs Botox?
There are a few differences between the two products, but biologically and chemically, they are virtually identical. The Dysport formula is more diluted than Botox, which changes the dosage level. Being more diluted doesn’t make Dysport less effective, your DermaTouch doctor will adjust the dosage to your individual case.
Because of the formula and structural differences, Dysport tends to diffuse more, causing it to spread out over a broader area after it’s injected. This can be beneficial when treating a larger area, such as wide forehead wrinkles, and areas with thinner muscles, such as crows’ feet.
How long does a Dysport® treatment last?
The effects of a Dysport® treatment are not permanent. Your first treatment for wrinkles can last 3 to 6 months. Later treatments may last up to one year. Treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) may last up to one year (average 5.2 months).
What are the side effects and risks associated with Dysport® ?
When Dysport® is injected directly into the muscle that causes wrinkles, some bruising may occur. Rarely, some people have been reported nausea, fatigue, malaise, skin rash, and flu-like symptoms.
Read the DYSPORT (DIS-port) (abobotulinumtoxinA) Injection Medication Guide. It summarizes the most important information about the side effects, risks and other important safety information. If you would like more information, talk with a DermaTouch doctor. For more information about DYSPORT call 877-397-7671 or go to www.dysport.com or www.DysportUSA.com.
How long one does treatment take?
Most treatments can be done in a short time, about 10 to 15 minutes. Most patients will have no evidence of having been treated, although some may have mild bruising. Nearly all our patients return to their daily activities right after the procedure. That’s why the treatment is often called a lunch-time” procedure. Just take a lunch break come to our office and in no time, you’ll be back to work! We do recommend you avoid strenuous exercising, running or jogging for at least 3 to 4 hours.
Do DYSPORT treatments hurt?
You will get a series of very small injections using a fine needle. There is only minor discomfort and no anesthesia is needed. Most patients tolerate the injections easily, some patients ask for a topical anesthetic.

Is Dysport for me?
Dysport® has not been studied in pregnancy, and it is therefore unknown if fetal harm will result if a pregnant woman is treated with Dysport®. Therefore, the use of Dysport® is not recommended during pregnancy. Additionally, it is unknown if Dysport® (botulinum A exotoxin) is excreted in breast milk, where it could affect a nursing infant. Therefore, Dysport® treatment is not recommended for use in lactating women.
Additionally, patients with neuromuscular disease, such as myasthenia gravis and Eaton-Lambert syndrome, should not be treated with Dysport® as it may worsen these conditions. Of course, anyone who has had an allergic reaction to Dysport® should not be treated. Otherwise, if you are ready for a new and younger look, this may just be the anti-aging solution you are looking for!
After a consultation with a DermaTouch physician, we can evaluate how Dysport can benefit you and if there are any risks.
