Have you heard the term “liquid facelift,” and you’re wondering what it is? Curious as to what all of the rave is about? Wondering if a liquid facelift is really minimally invasive without the need for surgery or anesthesia? Are the results long-lasting? What’s required for treatment?

A liquid facelift combines neuromodulators and dermal fillers

A liquid facelift is a customizable treatment where a skilled injector uses a combination of dermal fillers, like Juvederm, with neuromodulators, like Botox and Dysport. These two products complement each other well when combined. Both provide significant results to create a more youthful-looking appearance but work differently and treat different facial areas.

Dermal fillers improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles

Dermal fillers have become one of the most popular minimally invasive cosmetic treatments behind Botox to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers can be used to fill in “parentheses lines,” also referred to as nasolabial folds. They can also be used to fill in lines on other areas of the face.

Dermal fillers add volume

Dermal fillers are an excellent treatment to add volume to the face. It can be used to add volume to the lips and cheeks and can also be used to fill out the chin and improve the symmetry of the face.

Botox improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles

As the number one minimally invasive cosmetic treatment, Botox is used by millions to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is an FDA-approved neuromodulator to treat crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines. When Botox is injected into the muscles, it freezes, or paralyzes, them. The muscles then relax. As a result, the appearance of lines and wrinkles are improved.

There are also popular off-label uses for Botox. Many Botox practitioners use Botox to lift the eyebrow, lift the corners of the mouth, smooth out the chin, reduce the appearance of bunny lines across the nose, and thin out the jawline.

Results are almost immediate after a liquid facelift

The dermal filler results of your liquid facelift are instantaneous. However, it can take up to two weeks for dermal fillers to “settle.” As a result, you’ll want to allow two weeks to see the long-lasting results of your liquid facelift. Depending on the amount and type of filler used and areas being treated, results can last up to two years.

If you don’t love your results, you can dissolve some dermal fillers with an enzyme after they’ve been injected. Such dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid. As examples, the Juvederm and Restylane families of dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that decreases as we age. Dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid draw moisture to them and plump the skin of treatment areas.

With Botox, it takes up to two weeks for maximum results to be seen. Initial results can be seen in as little as five days. Botox results last for four to six months after treatment. Additional Botox injections will be required to maintain results. If you don’t love your Botox results, you’ll need to wait until the treatment wears off for your facial expressions to return to pre-treatment form.

Dermal fillers and Botox treat different areas of the face

Dermal fillers are excellent treatments to fill in lines and wrinkles, add volume, and create facial symmetry. They are also perfect for adding some “va-va-voom” or subtle volume to the lips and augment the chin. Botox treats lines and wrinkles in areas of the face that aren’t typically treated with dermal fillers, including the forehead and the outside corners of the eyes. Used together, you can get a full transformation with a Botox and dermal fillers.

A liquid facelift is a relatively quick treatment

Botox and Juvederm treatments are relatively quick as stand-alone treatments or when combined. Each takes 10 to 15 minutes, on average. The maximum time for a liquid facelift is approximately 30 minutes, give or take a few. The exact length of time required for your treatment depends on the amount of product used, the number of areas treated, and the injector.

An additional 5 to 15 minutes will be added for your treatment time if a topical numbing cream is used before your injection. A low dose of lidocaine is included with many fillers, like Juvederm, which reduces injection discomfort. Many choose not to use numbing cream before treatment as a result. However, certain areas are more sensitive than others, such as the lips, and a numbing cream can help decrease discomfort during treatment.
