The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery conducted a 2019 poll that showed body contouring and fat loss to be one of the top aesthetic concerns for individuals.  There are numerous reasons why individuals might want to lose fat: to look better, to fit back into those favorite clothes, to feel healthier, or because their doctor told them they need to for health-related reasons. Or, maybe it’s a combination of these reasons.

Whatever the reason, it can be frustrating to have those few areas on the body where it’s hard to lose those last few inches. Many prefer nonsurgical fat reduction options compared to going under the knife to lose those last few inches in hard-to-lose areas.

What is nonsurgical fat reduction?

Nonsurgical fat reduction provides a reduction in fat without surgery. No anesthesia or needles are required, such as is the case with procedures like liposuction and gastro bypass surgery. With some nonsurgical fat reduction procedures, there is little to no downtime, as well.

Some of the different types of nonsurgical fat reduction treatments include injection lipolysis (Kybella), cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting), and laser lipolysis (SculpSure). The most popular nonsurgical fat reduction treatment over the past few years has been CoolSculpting, which uses cryolipolysis to reduce fat in treatment areas. Millions of CoolSculpting treatments have been conducted throughout the world. CoolSculpting also won the New Beauty “Best Noninvasive Fat Eliminator” award six years in a row.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting uses freezing technology to freeze fat cells in treated areas. It is FDA-cleared to treat nine regions of the body:

  • Arms
  • Stomach (belly fat)
  • Back Fat
  • Bra Fat
  • Banana rolls (beneath the buttocks)
  • Chin Fat (double chin)
  • Jawline Fat
  • Thighs
  • Waistline flanks (love handles)

After CoolSculpting freezes the fat cells in treatment areas, the fat cells are eventually eliminated from the body through the body’s natural elimination process. As the fat cells are eliminated, fat is reduced for a slimmer-looking physique, and the fat cells are permanently gone for good.

Because CoolSculpting is a fat reduction process, it is not a weight-loss treatment. Many individuals will lose inches from the treatment areas without losing much weight. Why? Because we are born with a certain number of fat cells that stabilize around puberty. After that time, the number of fat cells within our bodies remains virtually the same.

As we gain and lose weight, our fat cells are actually changing in size‑we lose weight when our fat cells shrink and gain weight when our fat cells increase in size. With CoolSculpting, fat cells are eliminated from the body, reducing the number of total fat cells in the treated areas. As the number of fat cells is reduced, the area shrinks in size.

What is CoolSculpting Elite?

CoolSculpting has been on the market for a decade now. CoolSculpting Elite is the newest generation of cool from CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting Elite allows you to treat two areas instead of just one. It also uses a C shape applicator vs. the classic U shape applicator.

The C shape allows for better suction, a more even treatment, and speedier treatment times. Up to 18% more surface area can be treated with CoolSculpting Elite compared to the classic CoolSculpting treatment. Two treatment areas can be done in half the time, as well.

Who is an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting works best for those who are close to their ideal weight. It is the perfect treatment for diet- and exercise-resistant fat. Men and women both turn to CoolSculpting to meet their fat loss goals.

After treatment, it takes up to three months to see results. Fat cells can continue to be removed from the body for six months following treatment. With a healthy lifestyle, CoolSculpting results can be long-term. It is common to see up to a 20 to 25% reduction in fat following treatment in the treated areas of the body.

It is recommended that those who have lost a lot of weight recently wait to receive CoolSculpting until after they’ve maintained their weight for a year. Women with children should wait to have CoolSculpting at least 12 months after their last child was born.

How much is a CoolSculpting Elite treatment?

Traditional CoolSculpting treatments generally range from $2000 to $4000. According to a RealSelf survey of 5200 individuals, the cost of CoolSculpting ranges anywhere from $475 to $4600. The average price was $2450. At DermaTouch RN, our CoolSculpting treatments range from $600 to $750 per applicator. Typically, multiple applicators are required for each treatment.

Common CoolSculpting treatment areas include the stomach and arms. The average CoolSculpting cost to treat the stomach and both arms is between $1500 and $3000 and $1400 to $3000 per treatment, respectively. Many practices offer CoolSculpting package deals, so be sure to ask the practice you’re considering about any package deals they might offer.

CoolSculpting Elite’s pricing will be a bit higher than traditional CoolSculpting pricing.
