KYBELLA, FDA-Approved Solution to Submental Fat in the Chin of Adults.As we age, not only does our skin lose elasticity but pockets of fat may also accumulate in certain areas of our body. One of these areas is the chin and neck, giving a double chin appearance to even the leanest among us. Often resistant to diet and exercise, FDA-approved KYBELLA® injectable treatments are able to dissolve this fatty pocket, known as “submental” fat.
Identical to our own body’s own deoxycholic acid, which helps to absorb and eliminate fats, KYBELLA® works by targeting and destroying these fat cells.
According to a 2015 survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 67% of people are bothered by the excess fat beneath their chin.
KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) is a prescription medicine, the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat beneath the chin of adults. Once destroying these fat cells, the area can no longer store or accumulate fat. Based on composite clinician and patient ratings scales, 68.2% and 16% of KYBELLA® -treated subjects had ≥ 1-grade and ≥ 2-grade improvement after final treatment, versus 20.5% and 1.5% of those treated with placebo, respectively (1).
A series of injections are delivered directly to the fatty pocket beneath the chin, destroying fat cells and improving the appearance of moderate to severe convexity or fullness associated with “submental fat” in adults.
KYBELLA® versus CoolSculpting CoolMini
Unlike the CoolSculpting “CoolMini,” which uses Cryolipolysis (cold therapy) and requires the chin of a patient to be clamped into a small device delivering “arctic level cold” for an hour, KYBELLA® injections are delivered in a rapid and direct manner to the marked areas, taking less than 30 minutes to complete.
KYBELLA® injection therapy is proving a less invasive alternative to liposuction and surgery to remove double-chin, or submental fat of the chin, in adults. The procedure can accommodate any size patient, unlike the size restrictive CoolMini device. While most patients see results in just two sessions, size and severity of submental fat may require additional sessions. Though, once results are achieved, patients will not need to address this area again.
