New Neuromodulator –  Letybo vs. Botox

blog-img

If you’re considering Botox injections, you might have also heard about a new neuromodulator on the market called Letybo. In this post, we discuss how these two treatments compare.

When it comes to smoothing fine lines and softening frown lines, Botox has long set the standard in aesthetic medicine. Trusted for decades by providers and patients alike, Botox is a neuromodulator that delivers consistent, natural-looking results that have made it the go-to neuromodulator for millions worldwide.

Recently, Letybo entered the U.S. market, offering another option for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines, the vertical lines between the eyebrows. So, what exactly is Letybo, and how does it stack up against Botox?

Houston-based Nurse Injector Nicole Sarmiento is an Allergan-certified trainer. Allergan is the maker of Botox and other well-known aesthetic treatments like Juvederm and CoolSculpting. Sarmiento has tried Letybo and shares her insights below.

What is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved neuromodulator used to temporarily relax facial muscles and smooth dynamic wrinkles, especially frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. It was also recently approved to treat platysmal bands in the neck.

Botox works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, reducing muscle movement and softening the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Results take up to two weeks to fully develop and typically last 3 to 4 months.

What is Letybo?

Letybo is the newest FDA-approved neurotoxin treatment for frown lines, with approval for moderate to severe glabellar lines, the vertical lines between the eyebrows (also referred to as the “1,” “11,” and “111” lines). Like Botox and other botulinum toxin products, Letybo works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkles, helping to smooth the skin for a more youthful appearance.

Letybo vs. Botox

When asked how Letybo compares to Botox, Sarmineto shared, “Letybo has a similar rate of action to Botox. Results were typically seen within 7 to 10 days. Results lasted for 3 to 4 months.”

Letybo presents a possible alternative to Botox. However, with its long-term use by the cosmetic industry, Botox is widely trusted for its safety, consistency, and natural-looking outcomes when administered by trained professionals.

What are other neuromodulators on the market?

Neuromodulators are the number one minimally invasive cosmetic treatment in the U.S., so it’s no surprise that several alternatives to Botox have emerged over the years. In addition to Letybo, other neuromodulators include Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, and Daxxify®. Dysport was the first neuromodulator to follow Botox, which was FDA-approved in 2009.

All of these treatments use botulinum toxin to temporarily reduce muscle activity. However, their formulations and dosing requirements can vary significantly.

Note: Letybo and other neuromodulators are not interchangeable with other neuromodulators. Due to differences in formulation and unit measurement, dosing should always be handled by a trained medical professional to ensure optimal results and safety.

Why Botox over other neuromodulators?

Botox has been the industry leader since its cosmetic approval in 2002 and remains the most studied neurotoxin available. Millions of people worldwide trust Botox each year to improve the appearance of forehead lines, crow’s feet, glabellar lines, and more.

According to Sarmiento, “Botox is the most studied neurotoxin on the market. It also has the most FDA-approved indications for the face. They are Glabella, Frontalis, Crow’s Feet, and Platysmal Bands.”

Botox is also commonly used for off-label uses, like:
