Medical Spa trends for 2023, like Juvederm filler advancements and a reduction in MedSpa stigma, are on track to continue throughout the year…

The MedSpa industry continues to gain traction in terms of popularity and lowering the stigma around MedSpa treatments. From the FDA-approval of Botox in 2002 to non-surgical treatments like CoolSculpting Elite and liquid facelifts that require little to no downtime, more and more have turned to their local MedSpas for cosmetic and aesthetic services over the past couple of decades.

In our last quarterly report, we discussed 10 trends expected to continue throughout 2023 (referenced at the bottom of this post). As we move through 2Q 2023, additional trends are happening in the industry.

We turned to Houston-based Marketing Director Amanda Burns for her perspective on the latest Medical Spa trends for 2012 and what we can expect moving forward.

Medical Spa Trends for 2023

Trend #1: MedSpa Industry is booming while other healthcare industries are declining or flatlining

The MedSpa industry is expanding, while other healthcare industries are either declining or plateauing.

Burn shares, “By 2027, the MedSpa industry is expected to grow by $10 billion, equating to an average of 11% growth annually. Injections, like Botox and dermal fillers, are anticipated to grow even more, 12% annually through 2027.”

Trend #2: Allergan continues to enhance Juvederm line

Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, is the leading powerhouse in the cosmetic and aesthetic industry. Allergan is the maker of well-known and popular names in the industry, including Botox Cosmetic, Juvederm, SkinMedica, and CoolSculpting Elite.

“Allergan is known for its innovative stance and rigorous testing for products proven to be effective and safe,” shares Burns, “In January, Allergan introduced Juvederm Volux, the first and only FDA-approved HA dermal filler to enhance the jawline.”

Volux works best for those ages 21 and over with moderate to severe loss of jawline definition.

Trend #3: Increasing cultural acceptance of MedSpas

According to Burns, more and more people are turning to MedSpas as cosmetic treatments become more common.

“In recent years, the popularity of healthy aging and wellness, in general, has made the visits to the local MedSpa more commonplace than they once were. Men’s participation in cosmetic and aesthetic services, like Botox injections and dermal filler treatments, have also increased cultural acceptance of MedSpas, as has the increase in social media, tv ads, and sites like RealSelf, where real people openly share their aesthetic and cosmetic service before and after results and experiences.”

Trend #4: Magnetic Muscle Stimulation (MMS) popularity on the rise

Toning up and being in shape is a high priority for people from all walks of life. And for those that have recently lost fat inches around the waistline, abdomen, and other areas, they’re often looking for an option to firm up sagging skin that can result. Enter Magnetic Muscle Stimulation (MMS) and Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS).

MMS and EMS treatments have been on the rise over the past couple of years, especially with celebrities and others sharing their results on social media. CoolTone is a popular treatment that uses MMS, which delivers intense pulses to muscle tissue. It penetrates the muscle and induces involuntary contractions that help tone the muscle.

At DermaTouch RN, we find CoolTone to be a great complementary treatment to CoolSculpting,” shares Burns, “It helps to tone and sculpt muscles following the fat reduction that people see following a CoolSculpting Elite treatment.”

MARKETING DIRECTOR

As Marketing Director of DermaTouch RN, Amanda brings a valuable combination of esthetics and marketing experience to the table.
