Schedule your Botox and dermal filler consultation today!

If you’re new to aesthetic treatments, learning about Botox and dermal fillers can feel overwhelming at first. We cover the basics of what you should know in this post.

Botox and filler treatments are among the most popular non-surgical options available today because they offer natural-looking rejuvenation with minimal downtime. Whether you are curious about smoothing wrinkles with Botox and fillers or restoring youthful volume with Botox and Juvederm, understanding how these treatments work is the first step in deciding what may be right for you.

While Botox and dermal fillers are often mentioned together, they serve very different purposes. To help break down the basics, we turn to Houston-based Nurse Injector and Advanced Practice Nurse Marcy Bouillion for guidance on what beginners should know about Botox and dermal fillers, including how they work, what to expect from treatment, and how to prepare for your appointment.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Bouillion shares that “dermal fillers are composed mostly of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which works to replace lost volume, hydrate the skin, and lift areas where volume loss has occurred, in addition to improving the smoothness of the epidermal layer of the skin.”

Top 5 Things to Know About Dermal Fillers

Here are the top five things Bouillion believes you should know as a dermal filler newbie:

  1. Ensure that, prior to your treatment, you have had no vaccinations within the last 30 days and no recent infections or viruses.
  2. Plan any dental visits and future vaccinations at least 30 days after your appointment to avoid post-procedural inflammation and additional swelling.
  3. Consider that you may have swelling and post-procedural bruising, so plan your appointment accordingly for any upcoming events.
  4. Bring in inspirational pictures if you would like, to give us a better idea of what you are trying to achieve overall.
  5. At times, it is best to make a ‘plan of care’ with your provider that covers multiple areas we want to treat. It can sometimes be best to accomplish this over several visits to ensure a comprehensive approach. Be patient, as the best outcomes are often achieved over time.

What Is Botox?

“Botox is a neuromodulator that is injected into muscle groups to temporarily paralyze and restrict muscle movement,” states Bouillion. “When this is successfully accomplished, we see reduced skin movement, which [improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles] and inhibits lines and wrinkles from forming over time.”

Top 3 Things to Know About Botox Injections and Neuromodulators

Here are the top 3 to 5 things to know about Botox injections and neuromodulators, according to Bouillion:

  1. Minimal bruising usually occurs, but you can bruise. Please try to avoid the use of NSAIDS, fish oil, or any other vitamins that may increase your risk for bruising prior to your visit.
  2. Your provider should go over your medical history with you prior to treatment, ensuring no contraindications are noted. Please also inform your provider of any previous treatments and reactions noted.
  3. At your appointment, we will do an assessment and then provide treatment based on our physical assessment and your desires. We will also encourage a touch-up to ensure we have met your expectations and, even more so, to become more familiar with your muscle movements, responses, and the necessary dose to achieve the desired outcomes.

Ready to Schedule a Consultation?

For those new to aesthetic treatments, Botox and dermal fillers can be an excellent introduction to non-surgical facial rejuvenation. When performed by a skilled provider, treatments like Botox and Juvederm are designed to enhance your natural features (not change them), creating subtle improvements that help you look refreshed and confident.

The key to great results with Botox and fillers is working with an experienced provider who understands facial anatomy and can create a customized treatment plan based on your goals. Every face is unique, and the best outcomes often come from a thoughtful approach that may include both Botox and dermal fillers over time.

If you’re considering Botox and dermal fillers and want to learn more about your options, scheduling a consultation with DermaTouch RN is the perfect place to start. During your visit, your provider will evaluate your concerns, discuss treatment recommendations, and help you develop a plan that aligns with your aesthetic goals.

Schedule your consultation online 24/7 or call 210-660-4368 (San Antonio) or 281-720-8622.
