Whether you’ve been looking at before and after photos for ideas or just want to know about pricing, this guide will help.
From preparation tips to aftercare instructions, here’s everything you need to know according to Houston-based Lead Nurse Injector Nicole Sarmiento.
What Is Lip Filler?
Lip filler is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment designed to add volume, definition, and shape to the lips. Most lip fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that attracts and retains moisture, giving the lips a soft and natural-looking fullness. The treatment is quick, typically completed in under an hour, and requires little to no downtime, making it one of the most popular aesthetic treatments available today.
Lip Filler Before and After Guidelines
During a lip injection procedure, the provider carefully injects filler into targeted areas of the lips and surrounding tissue to achieve your desired outcome. Whether the goal is subtle enhancement, improved symmetry, or greater overall facial balance, lip filler can be tailored to complement your unique facial features. Results are visible almost immediately and can last anywhere from six to twelve months, depending on the individual and the product used.
But what about the lead-up to and the follow-up after your lip injection procedure? What do you need to know? In the next few sections, Sarmineto shares her expertise to answer these questions.
How Should You Prepare for Your Lip Filler Treatment?
According to Sarmiento, below is what clients should consider before and on the day of their lip filler treatment.
Before lip filler treatment
- Prior to treatment, it is important to discuss and inform your provider of any allergies or medical conditions.
- The area to be treated should be free of any redness or irritation.
- You should be healthy on the day of treatment.
- If you have a history of cold sores, it is important to be on an antiviral medication days prior to your appointment.
- It is important 24 hours before your lip appointment to avoid alcohol and limit salt and caffeine intake. It is also important to avoid any waxing, bleaching, or threading on the upper lip and surrounding area.
The day of lip filler treatment
- It is important to have a light meal prior to treatment.
- You should dress comfortably.
What Are the Aftercare Guidelines Following a Lip Filler Treatment?
After your treatment, how can you make sure you get the best results? Sarmiento shares her tips:
“It is important to sleep with your head elevated or use extra pillows and avoid intense exercise, alcohol, excess salt, and extreme heat for 24 to 48 hours following treatment. You may apply a cold compress for 10-15 minutes at a time. Although never directly apply the cold compress to the skin.”
Pro Tip: When using a cold compress after your filler treatment, place a cloth or other barrier between the ice and your skin.
Sarmiento also points out that lips may become dry and remain dry for up to two weeks following treatment.
“Drinking plenty of water can help keep the lips hydrated. You may use Carmex, Aquaphor, or vaseline to help. However, wait at least 24 hours before applying lipstick or lip gloss.”
What Additional Tips Should You Keep In Mind About Lip Filler Injections?
You want to ensure you schedule your lip injection appointment at a time that works with your events calendar.
“It is best not to schedule a lip filler appointment right before any important events,” shares Sarmiento. “It can take up to 2 to 4 weeks for the lips to truly heal following treatment. It is also best to postpone any dental work, vaccines, chemical peels, and laser treatments for at least two weeks before or after your lip treatment.”
How Much Are Lip Injections?
Many people wonder how much lip injections cost before booking. Prices can vary based on a few things, like how many syringes you need, the type of filler, your provider’s experience, and where the clinic is located.
At DermaTouch, lip filler treatments with Juvederm are priced at $550 to $700 per syringe, with discounts provided on injection packages and our Aesthetic Club membership.
Many first-time patients achieve their desired results with half or one full syringe, while others may prefer a second syringe for more dramatic volume or to address additional areas around the lips. During your consultation, your provider will assess your lips, discuss your goals, and recommend the number of syringes best suited to help you achieve a natural, balanced result.
It might be tempting to look for the lowest price for lip injections, but safety and experience matter most. Choosing a skilled injector helps make sure your results look great, even, and suit your face. At DermaTouch, our team is highly trained in facial anatomy and focused on helping you look your best.
