You reach for the sleeveless top, then put it back. If that moment sounds familiar, you’re in good company. Arms are one of the areas patients ask about most at DermaTouch RN, and the frustration tends to be similar across the board: skin that’s looser or crepier than it used to be, sun damage that’s built up over the years, or stubborn fullness in the upper arms that won’t budge no matter how consistent your exercise routine is.
The good news is that each of those concerns has a potential treatment. Laxity, texture, tone, and volume respond to different arm treatments, so the right plan starts with understanding what’s going on with your skin.
Arm Treatments Q&A
We asked two Houston-based DermaTouch RN experts, Aesthetician Krys Givens and CoolSculpting Expert and Aesthetician Nicci Pedroni, to walk us through the arm treatment options they turn to, from energy devices like Sofwave and Vivace Ultra Microneedling to CoolSculpting Elite, and what you can realistically expect from each.
Q: What energy devices are used to treat the arms at DermaTouch RN?
Givens: Energy devices used to treat arm concerns can range from Vivace Ultra and Sofwave to lasers and light-based services, such as BBL, MOXI, or HALO. The modalities chosen will depend largely on what the patient’s concern is. Depending on the service, we may also be able to include the hands for a total arm and hand rejuvenation.
Arm Treatments for Tightening and Texture: Sofwave & Vivace
Q: How does Sofwave help?
Givens: Sofwave can help with improving the appearance of skin laxity on the upper arms, as well as overall skin quality. The area typically treated is the inner underside of the upper arm; however, the specific size and shape treated is patient-dependent and requires a consultation to personalize your treatment plan.
There’s no downtime with Sofwave, so this service can be performed any time of the year. Body areas typically require 2 to 3 sessions, depending on skin quality, goals, and other factors–such as age, hormone status, and past or present weight loss–which will be considered when determining your individual plan.
Q: How does Vivace Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling work?
Givens: Vivace Ultra RF Microneedling rebuilds collagen by combining radiofrequency and microneedling. An ultrasound scan of the area is performed prior to treatment to ensure optimal placement depth of the energy to maximize patient outcomes. On the body, Vivace Ultra may help with skin tightening, stretch marks, crepey skin, skin quality, and scar reduction. A series of 3 to 6 sessions is typically recommended, depending on patient goals and other cofactors.
Arm Treatments for Sun Damage and Tone: BBL, MOXI, and HALO
Q: How can Broadband Light (BBL), MOXI, and HALO lasers help treat the arms?
Givens: BBL can improve the overall appearance of sun-damaged skin and is often used in combination with MOXI or HALO for optimal outcomes.
MOXI targets sun damage, uneven tone, and mild skin quality issues. Adding your hands or forearms to your face treatment with MOXI is quick and easy. MOXI does have some visual downtime, typically 10 to 14 days, or longer for more mature skin or those who heal more slowly. Strict avoidance of direct, prolonged sun for at least two weeks post-treatment is also required. MOXI is typically performed in a series of 3 to 6 sessions.
HALO can provide an overall refresh to the skin, and if the skin has an uneven tone, your optimal treatment plan will most likely include BBL. HALO checks a lot of boxes in skin rejuvenation, and on the body, you may see tighter, firmer skin, improvements in overall skin quality and texture, as well as reduction of sun damage and more even tone.
HALO provides a great option for overall rejuvenation. It does, however, have downtime similar to MOXI of 10 to 14 days or more, with a commitment to avoiding direct, prolonged sun exposure for two months after each session. HALO is recommended as a base series of two sessions, but more may be recommended based on your goals and current skin condition.

Arm Treatments for Stubborn Fullness: CoolSculpting Elite
Q: Why is CoolSculpting so popular when it comes to treating the arms?
Pedroni: Sometimes working out just isn’t enough to reduce stubborn volume that makes the upper arms look heavier than they naturally are. A lot of people have trouble getting rid of extra volume in the arms over time, no matter how many times they work out. That’s why, besides the midsection, the arms are one of the top treatment areas for CoolSculpting Elite.
Q: How long does it take to see results with CoolSculpting Elite?
Pedroni: We typically treat the arms three times, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. When treating the arms, you can typically notice a difference anywhere between 4 and 6 weeks after that initial treatment visit.
Complementary Arm Treatments & Skin Care
Q: What complementary arm treatments do you recommend to optimize results?
Pedroni: After treatment, I love pairing CoolSculpting with the Firm & Tone Body Lotion by SkinMedica for the arms, applying once or twice daily. Depending on a person’s concern, we can provide a more extensive, detailed treatment plan, including energy device treatments such as Sofwave or Vivace Ultra.
Givens: Three products that can be highly effective in complementing the overall outcome of your skin rejuvenation services include (plated) Body, Epicutis Lipid Body Treatment, and SkinMedica’s Firm & Tone Body Lotion.
And last, hyperdiluted Radiesse, a biostimulator, can pair nicely with any of the above services for optimal outcomes. Next time you’re in to see your injector, ask them about hyperdiluted Radiesse!
Ready to Schedule Your Arm Treatment Consultation?
Your arms carry a lot for you, and you deserve to feel good showing them, whether that means tighter skin, a more even tone, a slimmer contour, or a little of all three. The best results rarely come from one device or one visit. They come from the right combination, chosen for your skin, your goals, and your timeline, and supported by at-home care between sessions.
That’s what a skin consultation is for. Givens, Pedroni, and the DermaTouch RN team will work with you to review your concerns, talk through your options, and build a plan that fits you and your needs.
