If you’ve landed on this blog, you’ve likely heard of Botox and Juvederm, but you might be wondering how they both work. You also might be wondering what we mean by “provide a full transformation?”

Juvederm and Botox work well together as complementary treatments. They each provide effective results for various areas of the face. However, they each impact the skin and body differently in how they work to improve the appearance of fines lines, wrinkles, and volume loss.

Botox improves the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines

Botox is the number one minimally invasive cosmetic treatment available. Botox is an FDA-approved botulinum neuromodulator that is injected into the muscles. Once injected, the facial muscles relax. As the muscles relax, the appearance of fines lines and wrinkles is reduced.

With Botox, some see results within five days after treatment. Maximum results are seen within 14 days post-treatment. Botox is FDA-approved to treat crow’s feet around the eyes, forehead lines, and frown lines. Off-label uses of Botox include smoothing out the chin area and jawline, lifting the corners of the mouth, and lifting the eyebrows.

Dermal fillers add volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines

Dermal fillers, like the Juvederm family of fillers, are injected into facial areas to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Dermal fillers are also used to add volume to the face. Dermal fillers can be used in the nasolabial folds, chin, lips, and cheeks.

Results after a dermal filler treatment are instantaneous and can last up to two years, depending on the type of filler used, area of the body treated, and individual body chemistry. It can take up to two weeks for dermal fillers to “settle” after treatment. You’ll want to give it two weeks to see the “final” results of your treatment or before you decide to add or remove filler.

Some of the most popular fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA)

Some of the most popular dermal fillers, like Juvederm and Restylane, are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body. As we age, HA decreases. A decrease in HA can lead to loss of volume, sagging skin, and an increase in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. HA dermal fillers help temporarily improve the skin’s appearance by drawing water to the dermal filler molecules, which plumps the skin in the treatment areas.

In addition to hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers can also be made out substances such as calcium hydroxylapatite or collagen. A positive attribute of HA dermal fillers is the fact that they can be dissolved with an enzyme if you don’t like the results. Of course, if you work with a skilled injector, you’ll hopefully love your dermal filler results!

Botox and Dermal Fillers treat different areas of the face

Botox treats the areas of the face that typically can’t be treated with dermal fillers, such as around the corners of the eyes and the forehead. Dermal fillers are used to treat other areas of the face to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles or to add volume. Dermal fillers can also be used to improve facial symmetry.

Dermal fillers are also excellent treatments for lip augmentation and chin augmentation. So, together, you get a full transformation, or liquid facelift, with a Botox and dermal filler treatment! Dermal fillers and Botox are the perfect complementary treatments for a more youthful appearance.

A Juvederm and Botox treatment takes an average of 15 to 60 minutes

Another great thing about a Botox and Juvederm treatment is the fact that the procedures are relatively quick. Juvederm treatments take between 15 to 60 minutes, on average. Botox treatments take 5 to 15 minutes, on average. The exact length of time for a Botox and Juvederm treatment depends on the injector, the amount of product used, and the number of areas treated.

If a topical numbing agent is used before treatment, it can add an additional 5 to 15 minutes for numbing before being injected. Many fillers, like Juvederm, include a low dose of lidocaine, which helps to minimize injection discomfort. As a result, many forgo numbing cream before treatment. However, for more sensitive treatment areas, such as the lips (lips have several nerve endings), a numbing cream can reduce discomfort. Numbing cream also minimizes pain on the skin’s surface at the point of injection.

Juvederm is one of the most popular dermal fillers available

Juvederm has become one of the most popular dermal fillers on the market. The Juvederm family of fillers includes Ultra XC, Volbella, Vollure, Ultra Plus XC, and Voluma. Each filler has been FDA-approved to treat different areas of the face. Vollure, Ultra Plus, and Ultra are all used to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds of the lower face. Vollure lasts up to 18 months. Ultra and Ultra Plus last up to a year.

Voluma lasts up to two years and is used to treat the midface areas, such as the cheeks. Voluma is also FDA-approved to treat the chin area. Ultra and Volbella are great fillers for the lips and last up to one year.
